So far, i have collected up the pictures for my mask. I am using deer horns, a wolf snout and skunk facial features and a skunk tail. I collected pictures of the animals and their features that i am going to use on my mask (eg; eyes, snout, fur, deer) and also photographs of our animals facing different directions (eg; front, side and back). First, we used a plastic bag and filled it up with newspaper but not too much of the newspaper otherwise we wouldn't be able to shape it. Then, we moulded and shaped the plastic bag and we also used masking tape to get the shape we wanted for the head. We then used newspaper and the masking tape to add the features of the animals that we are going to use. I added ears, the snout and made the eyes have a 3.D form by using the newspaper. I think i made my ears to close to the forehead of the wolf, but it still looks good. After this, we decided if we needed to use some cardboard for any other parts of the animal features on our mask that couldn't be done by using the newspaper, i used the cardboard to make the deer antlers. I did this by cutting the shape out on two pieces of cardboard and then cutting it out and stuffing it with some newspaper and then stapling it together and sticky taping it to my mask.
After this stage, we started to paper mache our masks, by ripping the newspaper in different sized pieces which were suitable for our masks. We had to put on two layers of paper mache on our mask to make it strong and sustainable. I liked this part as it was fun and very enjoyable.
The next step is to put material over our masks, which i haven't gotten up to..yet.
I can't wait till i finish my final design! :)
