colours of my mask

this lesson i started painting the colours that i wanted on my mask. I used black and yellow for the bit on my mask that looks like the skunk on the forehead. i chose these colours as i thought that they were completely different colours and would make a nice contrast on my mask. i then used a little bit of black and red on the rest of my mask and i mixed them together so they flowed nicely. The nose of my mask is yellow-to match the yellow on the forehead. the yes of my mask are blue to match the colour of my horns. My horns start lighter blue at the bottom and darker at the end of the tips of the horns. the ears of my mask are flowing from red to orange and yellow. i dont think the colours of my mask flow that well, but if i keep working on it i hope that it will turn out good

24th August Progression in my mask

i think i have done quite alot of progression on my mask 8)
In class we used plaster bandage to cover the whole of our masks to create a stonger base. We had to wet the bandgae and smoothly cover it on our mask. I put 2 or 3 layers of this plaster bandage on my mask. (:
also, in class we have worked on putting texture on our masks using modelling paste, to give it a real effect and make it look better and realistic. we learnt that all the hairs or fur on an animal and even on humans, that it always goes out from your face outwards. I used this technique on my mask's head, though i did not use texture on my mask's horns as i didnt think deer have fur on their horns. For the horns i used the modelling paste and i smoothed it out on the horns so that when it will dry it will look nice and smooth and will be easier to paint.
For homework, we had to draw the final design of our masks and what we want it to look like using the oclours we also wanted to use. I'm using colourful colours all over my mask that match the personality of the animals that are involved in my mask.
I'm hoping that i will start to paint my mask next week :D

over and out!

Picture

These are the animals i am using. :)

What i've done so far..

So far, i have collected up the pictures for my mask. I am using deer horns, a wolf snout and skunk facial features and a skunk tail. I collected pictures of the animals and their features that i am going to use on my mask (eg; eyes, snout, fur, deer) and also photographs of our animals facing different directions (eg; front, side and back). First, we used a plastic bag and filled it up with newspaper but not too much of the newspaper otherwise we wouldn't be able to shape it. Then, we moulded and shaped the plastic bag and we also used masking tape to get the shape we wanted for the head.
We then used newspaper and the masking tape to add the features of the animals that we are going to use. I added ears, the snout and made the eyes have a 3.D form by using the newspaper. I think i made my ears to close to the forehead of the wolf, but it still looks good. After this, we decided if we needed to use some cardboard for any other parts of the animal features on our mask that couldn't be done by using the newspaper, i used the cardboard to make the deer antlers. I did this by cutting the shape out on two pieces of cardboard and then cutting it out and stuffing it with some newspaper and then stapling it together and sticky taping it to my mask.
After this stage, we started to paper mache our masks, by ripping the newspaper in different sized pieces which were suitable for our masks. We had to put on two layers of paper mache on our mask to make it strong and sustainable. I liked this part as it was fun and very enjoyable.
The next step is to put material over our masks, which i haven't gotten up to..yet.
I can't wait till i finish my final design! :)
